Aloo chop is a most common telebhaja. Aloor Chop a snack originating from the Indian subcontinent; in West Bengal and Bangladeshi preparation also widely available in Odisha, it is made out of boiled potatoes and various spices. "Aloo" means potato, and the word "chop" means a small cutlet fritters or croquette in Bengali. It is served hot and warm along with muri (puffed rice), green chilies, and sometimes sauce and salads. Aloo chop or potato chop are also made with besan.

Steps to make Aloo chop:
  1. Boil 5-6 potatoes. - Take 4 garlic cloves and some chillies and grind them into a paste.
  2. In a pan add oil. To them add panch phoran, finely chopped onions. - After the onion is golden brown add the paste and mix them.
  3. After some times add the mashed potatoes, salt, turmeric powder.
  4. In another bowl take gram flour, salt, chilli powder and mix them. Add water and make a little thick paste.
  5. When the potato is ready keep it for some time to cool down.
  6. Take oil for frying. After that make small balls of the above mixture. Dip it in that gram flour paste and deep fry them.
  7. Take them out. Serve hot with chutney, sauce.

Here they are made in aloo bonda style. After making potato patty dip it in besan or gram flour batter instead of bread crumbs. In Authentic Bengali style aloo chop, we dip aloo patty in egg then roll it in bread crumbs. If you don't want to use egg you can use thin maida or corn flour slurry. Aloo Chop is a scrumptious snack recipe and extremely popular in Bengali cuisine.
