To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook congee/porridge using 4 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Congee/Porridge:

Instructions to make Congee/Porridge:
  1. Porridge powder preparation: Take 1 cup (250 gms) of parboiled rice a.k.a. idly rice and dry roast it on low-medium flame till it turns light brown. Once it starts to change color, turn off and transfer it to a pan to cool down to room temperature. [A couple of them may pop. Not to worry.]
  2. Now take the rice in a blender and grind it coarsely. Transfer to an air tight container for storage.
  3. When needed, place a vessel on the stove and add about 1.5 cups of water - preferably boiled water to help speed up the process - turn on to medium. Now mix in 2 tablespoons of the porridge powder and ensure that there are no lumps.
  4. Let it boil for 5 minutes covered. Add salt and black pepper powder to taste. These are optional, though. [You may also stick to adding only sugar if you want it sweetened. If the fever or cold is doubted to be because of body heat/dry weather, you can add 1/2 cup of plain yogurt.] Once it starts to boil, turn off and serve.
